2021 EDITION
DE-SIDERE | To desire beyond
During these times of separation and confusion, listening within and without becomes essential. The most difficult task is to identify our guiding star.
We deeply yearn to give consistency and continuity to feelings and ideas, to our vision and the mission we aim to fulfil. De-siderare (to desire), to stare towards something that draws our attention, or conversely to look away when we perceive an absence experienced as a passionate and endless search. In a word, a desire. The energy that pulls us beyond our everyday reality, where what really matters is the act of desiring itself.
Just like Schubert wanderer’s inner journey through Müller’s scripts; Messiaen’s dialogue with the divine in his “Quartet for the End of Time “based on John’s Apocalypse; Dante’s encounter with nature and the animal figures inhabiting it, seen through the eyes of three contemporary composers. And again, the soul’s dreamlike exploration employed by Britten, away from his homeland, to give a musical voice to Rimbaud’s allegorical visions; Cras aquatic universe; and finally, the glimpse back to the past shared by Tchaikovsky, fascinated by the classic style, and Stravinskij, who revisits past and recent history with his sarcastic and translucent taste.
Various genres, spanning from early music to contemporary one, intertwine when performed by artists such as Alessandro Solbiati, Fabrizio De Rossi Re, Matteo Franceschini, David Salleras e Magnus Lindgren, through tales, short stories, dances, suites, sacred and profane artwork. They become spaces where we can search for our star, so much needed in those difficult times, when we are strongly challenged and for this very reason able to grow in a profound way. They are also opportunities for discussion and sharing with the new generations, who meet at MACH Project and Orchestra, a new initiative of musical and artistic production and training created by Festival “Musica sull’Acqua”.
