The location

The magnificent Romanesque style basilica stands on the square of the same name, in the center of the walled city. This area presents itself with a very rich historical and archaeological stratification.
The façade, partly hidden by a residential building next to it, is a neo-Roman historicist reconstruction from 1914, but preserves in the center the Renaissance Rose Window of the original façade from 1509. On the left side rises the slender bell tower, made up of parts built in historical periods different. The interior of the basilica has a Latin cross plan, with a hall divided into three naves of four bays each with high women’s galleries. The organ of San Fedele deserves a mention, among the best in the Como area: the work of the Mascioni company of Cuvio, it was built in 1941 with materials from an organ built in 1827 by the Prestinari brothers, and is today used for notable musical concerts.
