The location
Perched on a hill overlooking Gravedona ed Uniti, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie blends harmoniously with the landscape of the Lario, offering a striking view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Its simple façade, with a portal in Musso marble and a frescoed lunette, introduces a surprisingly rich interior. The single nave, punctuated by ogival arches and covered by a wooden ceiling, leads the eye towards the three apses, where the central one stands out for its ribbed vault. The walls are adorned with Renaissance frescoes telling sacred stories. Prominent among them are depictions of the Crucifixion and the lives of saints such as Anthony Abbot and John the Baptist, attributed to local masters such as Alvise De Donati. The adjacent cloister, with its ogival arches and frescoes, invites contemplation, while the panoramic position of the church offers a unique spiritual and sensory experience, where art, architecture and nature come together in perfect harmony.
