The location

The church of Santa Maria del Tiglio, a national monument, is a sacred building located in Gravedona, in the province of Como.
The building was erected at the end of the 12th century, probably on the foundations of a 6th century baptistery. The exterior, with alternating bands of light and dark stone, has the singularity of the bell tower set on the entrance portal, with a square section in the lower part, octagonal in the upper one. The interior, with a single room, has women’s galleries running along the sides and an apse unusually divided into three apses carved into the thickness of the wall. On the wall to the left of the entrance is a fourteenth-century Last Judgment, above the altar a large wooden crucifix from the twelfth century.
